JOB SUMMARY
Payroll Specialists are responsible for processing payroll for multiple states on a biweekly schedule, auditing payroll, understanding and executing garnishment orders, and responding to verification of employment and unemployment claims. The payroll specialist will interact and collaborate with internal teams including payroll tax, program offices, and accounting.
 
 
JOB DUTIES
  • Process payroll for various states and up to 10k plus employees per week
  • Audit payroll for discrepancies, errors and correct them accordingly
  • Verify time entered, pay rates, benefit deductions, and manually calculate and enter garnishments
  • Pay employees accurately and timely ensuring bank files are loaded timely and payroll is audited with no errors
  • Validate notices of changes for direct deposits including updating direct deposit information and issuing pay cards as
  • requested
  • Communicate with local offices regarding Verification of employment, pay issues, and all other payroll-related information
  • Process garnishments, verification of employment, and unemployment claims within 24 hours of receipt
  • Maintain a current and comprehensive understanding of all applicable state and county payroll laws and taxes
  • Understanding of payroll tax and tax adjustments
  • Other duties as assigned
 
QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma
  • 1-3 years of previous payroll experience
  • 1 year of payroll tax experience a plus
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to successfully pass a background screening
  • Effective written and verbal communication
  • Comply with applicable legal requirements, standards, policies, and procedures
  • Demonstrate dependability independently
  • Demonstrate effective problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Attention to detail in all aspects of job performance
  • Prioritize and multitask effectively
  • Participate in professional development and training activities
  • Maintain necessary skills and knowledge to coordinate workflow

The incumbent typically works in an office environment and uses a computer, telephone and other office equipment as needed to perform duties. The noise level in the work environment is typical of that of an office. Incumbent may encounter frequent interruptions throughout the workday. The employee is regularly required to sit, talk, or hear; frequently required to use repetitive hand motion, handle or feel, and to stand, walk, reach, bend or lift up to 20 pounds.
