JOB SUMMARY
 
The Director of Payroll Services leads a large, multi-disciplinary payroll as a service operations team responsible for processing high-volume payroll and related transactions across 15+ states, supporting over 100,000 worksite employee accounts. This role focuses on operational leadership, day-to-day service delivery, and continuous process improvement within the payroll domain. The Director ensures high-quality execution, regulatory compliance, workforce management, and collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Reporting to the Senior Director – Payroll and HR services, this leader is a tactical and strategic operational expert who partners across departments but operates with a more focused scope, concentrating primarily on payroll execution, regulatory adherence, and team performance.
 
 
JOB DUTIES

  • Apply leadership skills to manage, direct, coach, and evaluate supervisory staff to promote transparency, quality, and to drive process improvement efficiencies
  • Direct and champion key performance metrics, service level agreements, incentives, and staff development programs to drive the day-to-day delivery of services
  • Hire, train, and manage the teams as assigned
  • Identify and select external supports to support recovery efforts and business continuity
  • Demonstrate exemplary problem-solving and delegated decision-making skills.
  • Primary advocate for the payroll domain to outside interests (sales, stakeholders, customers)
  • Maintain confidentiality of Client information and company practices
  • Prepare and deliver regular progress reports/briefings to leadership
  • Other duties as needed

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 10+ years’ experience managing automated high-volume payment processing in healthcare or financial services environment
  • Masters Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Operations related field preferred
  • Experience with ADP MasterTax, Dynamics Solomon, Workday, or equivalent desired
  • Expert understanding of payment, payroll, and healthcare processing using both software automation and manual processing methods
  • Experience managing remotely full-time is a plus
  • Must be able to successfully pass a background screening
  • Ability to work flexible and/or extended hours, if needed, to meet the job requirements
  • Ability to travel up to 15% of the time
  • If remote or hybrid, must have own reliable internet service
 
 
The incumbent typically works in an office environment and uses a computer, telephone and other office equipment as needed to perform duties. The noise level in the work environment is typical of that of an office. Incumbent may encounter frequent interruptions throughout the workday. The employee is regularly required to sit, talk, or hear; frequently required to use repetitive hand motion, handle or feel, and to stand, walk, reach, bend or lift up to 20 pounds.
