Teen Respite Provider
Description & Requirements
We are seeking a Teen Respite provider to work with a non-verbal male teen with autism in Menomonee Falls. Respite, including assistance and cues/prompts for daily living skills training (DLST)/self-care tasks, will take place in the teen’s home to start and will eventually involve community outings. The ideal candidate will offer compassionate care with patience and kindness, while still having firm boundaries.
This teen enjoys being outside, playing on jungle gym/monkey bars/swings, watching tv, and loves the water!
Location: Menomonee Falls, WI
Wage: $23.23 per hour – DLST
$16.60 per hour – Respite
Schedule: Tues and Thur 3:30pm to 6:30pm (during school)
8am to 4pm days per week (summer)
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct care and support in daily routines and activities
- Engage the teen in meaningful activities that promote cognition and social interaction
- Be patient with the teen, allowing him to complete tasks successfully at his own pace and be positive with all interactions.
- Be consistent and firm with boundaries, all while remaining calm and kind
- Clean up after activities and meals in the home.
Qualifications:
- Possess a valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and auto insurance
- Prior experience working with special needs children and teens with developmental disabilities and/or autism.
- Willing to drive teen in the community for outings after a relationship has been established.
- Willing to complete a background check with a clean record.
- OK with cats and dogs in the home.
- Family prefers provider to be at least age 18 or over.
